DIANA CHAPMAN WALSH ALUMNAE HALL
As the main venue for ceremonial events and the performing arts, Alumnae Hall plays a central role on Wellesley’s campus. ABA revitalized the historic building, adapting it for 21st-century academic and theater use. As the college’s first building to receive LEED Gold, this award-winning project introduces contemporary design in balance with historic preservation. The exterior was fully restored, and a new glass-enclosed portico extends gathering spaces and the lobby to the exterior. The renovated and restored 1,000-seat auditorium now serves a broad range of performances, and a former ballroom has been converted to a flexible rehearsal space.
The Alumnae Hall renovation was honored with a Massachusetts Historical Commission Rehabilitation and Restoration Award.
